Accomplishments:

Accomplishments of the Circuit 15 Juvenile Justice Board and its subcommittees from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009:

Juvenile Justice Board

• Worked to obtain a lease extension for the Juvenile Assessment Center located on airport property to September 30, 2016.
• Held a Juvenile Justice Day – Court Awareness Day during juvenile justice week.
• Revised the comprehensive Juvenile Justice Plan.
• Revised the Bylaws.
• Elected new officers of the Board.
• Advocated at the State level for legislative issues.
• Continued to advocate for funding to replace the building that houses the Palm Beach Regional Juvenile Detention Center.
• ASPIRA exceeded program contract requirements.
• Enhanced the Board’s role and responsibility as a significant viable committee in the larger community.

Public Awareness Committee

• Created and distributed a fact sheet highlighting juvenile crime statistics titled “Juvenile crime affects everyone”.
• Created the Circuit 15 Juvenile Justice Board website www.c15jjb.com.
• Continued to upgrade the quarterly Newsletter and was able to get it posted on the Department of Juvenile Justice website.

Faith & Community Network

• Formulated a game plan to engage faith and community volunteers in reducing juvenile delinquency.
• Assisted a faith partner in securing funding for a Youth Alternative Care Monitor to replace and re-institute the Alternative to Secured Detention program.
• Assisted the Department of Juvenile Justice in the establishment of the Chaplaincy Program.
• Assisted a faith partner in applying for the Department of Juvenile Justice Disproportionate Minority Contact grant.
• Assisted faith partners in applying for a Department of Juvenile Justice mentoring grant.
• Assisted the Palm Beach County Criminal Justice Commission in applying for a gang reduction grant.
